Reply From Bridgend CBC re: Repairs to Dipping Bridge
Many of the coping stones that had been dislodged from the parapet had been damaged beyond reuse, which had become evident upon the removal of the loose coping stones. Some of the coping stones had severe frost damage and had shattered under the impact of whatever large vehicle had struck them out of position on the bridge. There were a small number which had been picked up from the bridge and taken to our depot to be stored but it was clear there were significant damage to these as well which would have prevented their reuse. As part of the upcoming works to the bridge there will be repairs carried out to the areas missing coping stones.
We are still awaiting final ground investigation reports and designs to be completed of the replacement training wall which will tie back in to the bridge.
